What qualifications does a Chiropractor have?
Doctors of Chiropractic complete five years of full time study followed by a one year post graduate internship at a recognised Clinic.
They receive thousands of hours of scientific education in anatomy and the function of the human body and the taking and reporting of X-Rays. Training also teaches Chiropractors the physical skill of giving an adjustment using the right amount of pressure at the proper time.
All Chiropractors at Momentum Chiropractic Clinic are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) as well as the British Chiropractic Association. (BCA)

What is the difference between a Chiropractor and an Osteopath?
Depending on the techniques used by the Doctor, Chiropractic and Osteopathy can be quiet a similar or very different experience. In the UK both professions tend to use mainly manual techniques to naturally ease body dysfunction and promote healing. Chiropractic has its major focus on overall wellness of lifestyle and the importance of a properly functioning spine to a healthy person. Chiropractors also have the training to take and analyse X-Rays.
Will Chiropractic cure my back/neck pain or headaches?
At the Momentum Chiropractic Clinic we aim to give our patients relief from back pain, neck pain and headaches, which are the most common symptoms that bring people into the practice - but there are no guarantees or promises. We endeavour to not merely relieve painful backs and necks, but to enable the body to express itself to the fullest.
Different patients have different healing times. Some experience relief immediately, for others by the end of the first month of care however for some patients relief can take a lot longer. Healing is dependent on the length of time a patient has had the complaint and the severity of their problem.
Do I need a referral from my GP to see a Chiropractor?
No. Doctors of Chiropractic are primary health providers. Although, if after examination we deduce that Chiropractic will not help you we will refer you to a GP or medical specialist/surgeon.
Do I have to have x-rays?
The results from your initial consultation will determine if x-rays are necessary and we will then will discuss this with you. In most cases x-rays are not required. If you already have had x-rays taken please bring them with you.
What is an ‘adjustment’?
A gentle, specific ‘thrust’ delivered by hand or instrument to the joints. The purpose of the adjustment is to restore movement to stiff or restricted joints thus removing the biomechanical dysfunction in your body.
With an adjustment there is usually a clicking or cracking sound. It is the same thing that happens when you crack your knuckles.
Does the adjustment hurt?
The adjustment is a painless procedure. However, if a person is already in pain any movement of course can be uncomfortable, but the adjustments are designed to ultimately reduce and eliminate pain.
Will my health insurance cover my Chiropractic care?
A lot of policies include Chiropractic care at some level. Contact your insurance company first to see whether you are covered. At the Momentum Chiropractic Clinic we are registered with most major health insurance companies.
Do I have to visit a Chiropractor forever?
No! At the Momentum Chiropractic Clinic we have three different types of care:
• relief care
• corrective care
• maintenance / wellness care.
Pain usually subsides in the first 4-6 weeks. However, correcting the cause of a problem takes longer.
You have the option of discontinuing care when the pain subsides, when you complete the corrective procedure or you can continue with what we call maintenance care. It is completely up to you.
The purpose of maintenance care is to keep your spine healthy and to avoid a reoccurrence of a spinal-related problem. Just as you go to the dentist for regular checkups, having your spine checked by a Chiropractor is as important. But the choice is always yours. |
